Approaching this project, we were asked to design a "dwelling" for a bird of our choice after research and consideration. We were also asked to employ the visual brand language (VBL) of an assigned brand alongside two sustainability practices in our final design. I chose to build for the American Kestrel using the VBL of Lollygagger Designs while emphasizing behavior change and local production.
Moving into the fabrication of the final model, I began with exporting the 3D model of the base to the laser cutter. My original intent was to use the CNC machine for most of the cutting work, but a conflict with scheduling and material made me reconsider. I decided to work with MDF and plywood. I used the band saw and the drill press to complete the needed features for the walls before finishing them with the router in the same fashion as the base.
